I am in the market for a new car and seriously considering a 4Matic C300. I have to decide between a Subaru Legacy 3.0 or the 4matic C300. I know the Subaru can make it up our hill in the winter as a friend of mine has one and he flies up. Unfortunately for me, I have never seen a 4matic go up the hill. I was kind of hoping a 4matic owner can look at this picture I took of my hill last year and do you think your 4matic will make it up?
I am guessing absolutely. But I do not want to hear "I told you so" from the misses.
I don't see why not, In my experience (Which is New England Winters) I havn't had an issue driving my 2009 c300 year round. Great traction with my OEM Continentals or my new Goodyear's. I live near Worcester MA which is mostly hills as well and havn't had a problem. However there was a Hill in Worcester during the Summer that literaly was like this: _/ So as I was going down the front bumper grazed the concrete. Just a few scratches on the bottom, no visible damage really.
I'd take the Mercedes over the Subara anyday regardless
Living in upstate NY, I can appreciate New England Winters - slush, windy roads with black ice, white outs. If someone such as yourself lives with those conditions and drives a Mercedes C300, I think the Mercedes is the way to go.
I live in Canada where we get a lot of snow and I have no problem with my 4Matic. But it all depends on the tires. Winter tires + all wheel drive is the best and will handle almost any winter situation. Personally, I don't like changing tires twice per year so I use Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires all year round. These are excellent snow tires as well as summer tires.
I completely agree that it is much more the tires than the car. DWS are excellent all seasons (have them on two of our cars here), but still are far exceeded by the capability of true dedicated winter tires, such as Blizzak WS70 or Michelin X-Ice xi3. We change to Blizzaks on our E350 4MATIC for winter. Short of adding studs or chains, you should do just fine. We don't have your hills, but I drive my rear wheel drive C300 through Michigan winters with Blizzaks. Keep in mind, going up the hill, the weight transfer is to the rear tires!
Edit...just looked at OP picture again....that's not a hill! That's a slope! Easy!
I'll give you my scenario and see how it goes. History on MB's 2004 E320 4 matic (wife's car) from 2004 until yesterday: 2008 ML 350, 2010 C300 4 matic until Sept 26 20l3 and from Sept 2013 Subaru Legacy Limited (all my cars): Yesterday 2013 C 300 4 matic Sport Premium l Package/Leather Package: With all that said My ML350 was the worst in snow: 2004 E320 was more than great in snow: 2010 C 300 was ok, never a thought of getting stuck in decent snow falls, but, we also don't go out in 9-12 inches of snow: Now as to my 2013 Legacy Limited of course it hasn't snowed yet, but from everything I have read or researched everybody raves over the traction, especially in far to the north territory. My car has leather interior and it is very comfortable even tho I'm not crazy about the seat angle. My wife's new car of which she picked up yesterday and last night I was able to sit in it, first of all their wasn't the great smell of leather and the seat/backs are I hope leather, they just don't feel as good as my car, even tho my car is basically $20,000.00 less. The reason I Leased a Legacy was after all these years (40 or more) I wanted to go back to basics and affordability and presently I haven't regretted the move, the big test will be if it snows this winter as it didn't last winter in the Philadelphia, Pa., vicinity. Maybe all this information will help or confuse you more.
