I am having a problem when I first turn on my gps that it says that I am not on the street I am on it puts my like 4 streets over, does the update fix this or is it because I am in a city
HAHAH "Examples of urban canyon include the Magnificent Mile in Chicago" that would explain it where I am at, its just weird because it will know where I am at just not the correct direction so I end up cutting across streets according to my GPS
Guys, I'm not going to be an internet police but this is completely illegal, shouldn't you agree on sharing the discs/images by PM instead of making this forum a place for illegal business.
My main concern is that I will have to pay twice the price for the legal copy if every sold DVD is used by two car owners (and it sounds here like in some cases it would be more than 2). There was a rumour that MB would make the discs VIN code dependent, perhaps you don't want to push for that option.
It's grey at best about being illegal. It all depends on the license agreement on the disc. Also, it costs MB about 1 dollar to press another CD, and I actually feel entitled to an update. Yes, after buying a premium car, it's BS that they should charge me for GPS update.

SEED SEED SEED
I'm no expert on copyright issues but why aren't music CDs or video DVDs sold for a dollar when it only costs that to produce another one?
I've never heard of a car make that provides navigation DVD updates for free (unless there was an issue with the DVD provided with the car). I'm not saying there would be none but in Europe this is not offered for a W221 and W204 isn't really a premium car in my opinion (but I am after one, it does not have to be a premium car for me to be interested).

I don't think the urban canyon thing should explain this. The car should remember where it was parked (I assume it was showing the right location when you parked it) and it should be able to work from there onwards with gyros even if it did not get satellite fix immediately.
I don't have any ideas what this could be but it does not sound normal, when compared to my experience from the W221 and the W204 Comand should actually be a bit better device.
Hey guys here is the dilemma i bought it off Otto my benz dealership was asking for 295$ CAD which i mean is pure theft. A week after receiving the car i noticed the maps were really not up to date. To give u an example when i was driving to my now ex-gf's house the navigation unit perceived me to be driving through a field and then getting off on a highway. I called the dealership and asked well what is up? They assured me the latest maps were loaded on the system. I only learned about the navigation update through this forum, i called the dealership and actually had to give them the part number for them to find the DVD. Ladies and gentlemen we bought benzes(plural of benz?), we should expect the nav system to be up to date. So this being said I am sure once I get the DVD we can find a way to pass it around the forum. Be it by mail or other means.
Edit: I think it's worth mentioning I picked up the car in June 08 and some of the omissions are almost 2 years old

This problem of outdated map database comes from the map database supplier (by the way, have you checked if it is Navteq or Tele-Atlas for the W204?). Major road changes get to the database pretty quickly but the process is still slow making them appear on the actual update DVD. 2 years is not rare.
You can check from the Navteq map error reporter if the street is on their database today (if it is not, enter a report with good reference info). I'd be interested knowing how it actually was.
You could compare that with Tele-Atlas, my experience for Europe is that Tele-Atlas updates small changes more accurately and with less delay. Unfortunately MB changed from Tele-Atlas to Navteq some time ago (not sure about all car models today).
Another issue MB owners from the US have reported is that MB asks Navteq not to include very small streets to their map DVD at all, like from more rural areas. SUVs on the contrary have all streets. I assume this is some kind of a liability issue when they don't want the owner to claim their navigation device made them drive a too small road.
