MPG Gas Price Rant Thread

As has been said, SLOW starts, get to high (5) gear ( at 58 mph ) and let the TC lock up, then keep it right there and I get north of 35 mpg on the freeway.
In city driving I get 22.5 doing this style of driving.

I keep the O2's and MAF and CAT's in tip-top shape, and I over inflate tires to 44 and it rides rough as hell, but that really helps.

If I 'convoy' on the highway I can get 42-45 but that is not really practical or safe.

My total miles are at 1576 with 27.3 mpg that is the overall.

The M112 V6 with the electronic 5 speed auto and lock up TC is just a fantastic combination. it can get good fuel miles, or eat up Jag's, what ever you want.

I am looking at adding LPG as it is cheap and at most all gas stations here in LA-CA-USA, but if I keep this one I wil add a pure Hydrogen multifuel to it.

There aint no more gas folks, carbon is over, deal with it.

I did hit my brakes a few times and some of the driving was between 65-70mph but at least 90% was at cruise on 75mph. The drive has some gradual hills and descents but is pretty flat overall.

Isnt 87 octane bad for your engine in the long term? Depoit build up, etc.. ?

I have a 2008 C300 and I do find it pretty hard to hit 17 mpg. I drive pretty fast.. 80 to 85 on I-5 here in Orange County.. and am averaging 21 mpg.

I had a 2005 Audi A4 1.8T and going 45 mph for a good hour netted me 42 mpg (EPA said 22-29). With the new C300, I did the same 45 mph and it only got about 33 mpg. That's being SUPER SUPER gentle on the gas and doing VERY soft accelerations.

But, then again.. 170 hp vs. 236 hp.

um...it costs me $120 to fill up to full tank right after light comes on. Don't know what the rant is about

Also, traffic causes bad gas mileage. Whenever I drive in the rush hour traffic, gas needles just drop. Highway, I can go for miles and miles. So try and avoid traffic if possible.

BTW its a 4 cyl 200k

Ah C200K... we don't get that here. Americans only get C300 or C350. Man, I wish I can get a C180K - I drove a C180K when I was in London and was impressed with its gas mileage. It wasn't even a diesel and it had decent power.

It's about $75 for me to fill it up. $120... I know Germany's $180 and England's around $160. Hmm, are you in Australia?

I think the W204 C300 gets great gas mileage for the size of the engine and weight of the vehicle.

I have a C300 Sport 4Matic and I'm averaging 24 mpg in mixed driving and 27 mpg in my typical 12-mile commute to the office. I also get around 27-28 mpg in highway driving, if I keep the speed at 65 mph on cruise control. I am surprised that the awd system does not reduce the fuel economy, but I think the new 7-spd auto. transmission has a lot to do with that.

I'd love to see a 4 cyl Kompressor engine on the new w204's like the one i have now on my 05 C230, I've easily averaged 34 mpg on highway with no cruise control goin btw 65 to 73 mph, sadly though im contemplating on upgrading to a newer model as I dont want to shell out 3500$ for a 3 yr extended warranty and worried about costly reapairs post 50k.

Find it really funny to hear about US fuel prices, my brother drives an Audi Q7 and he just filled it up with £120 ($240 USD) for a full tank!

1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liter

Best price I've seen for a liter over here is 1.19GBP, so roughly $8.90 a gallon. I miss not having my SLK over here, but for a daily driver, the C200K is awfully nice on the gas. Wife and I had to go up to north London the other day, and managed 37.5 over the 45 mile trip - this was mixed highway and city - and I was trying to break 38, so conservative driving, but at the speed limits. I'm pissed if I see < 21 in city traffic - which is normally pretty dire trying to get out of the city in the evenings.

Maybe MB will start offering more engine options in the states now that gas is staying north of $4...
