WOW, I was quite surprised when I realized MB put YUGO leather in my new GL. I was a rushed consumer and actually only Test drove a another version. I received my car for the first time at night. I loved the drive but kept thinking how uncomfortable the seats were. the next day I investigated and realized that Leather is not standard in my $70+k vehicular living-room. I've tried to get used to it but actually dislike the feel. I'm sure they will last forever, but so do "Peep's" and I don't like them either. Are consumers really buying into the cheapness of MB and their lame excuses why they use this material. I bought this car to be comfortable and I realize that comes at a price and maintenance but if every other manufacturer can make decent lasting leather, certainly MB can too. For good grief charlie Brown this is ridiculous.
In order to get leather on my 300 4Matic they are bringing it on a covered trailer (be here on Thursday) from Minnesota!! Always like the leather over vinyl but to each his own. If you take care of leather by tinting the windows for example and clean then condition as required it will last for many many years. Most people just don’t take care of it like they should.
pref on mb-tex, no worries with it. plus everyone already thinks its leather anyways so whats the point of blowing the extra $$$
Well in my case I like the smell of leather and the feel---I can tell the difference. That being said if you like the other then get it but to say preople can't tell the difference is kind of like wearing a fake rolex IMHO.

There have been a lot of good points made here but I'm glad I have leather. As far as I know, when my pre-owned car was new, leather was the only option available. Also, I have never owned a car with leather seats so it's new for me. I plan to treat them with the Leatherique products as soon as it is warm enough to "bake it in" and don't mind the bit of extra work.
There has been something unique to German-made vinyl for a long time. I had two '70s era Porsches, neither of which had leather. With the single exception that one of the driver's seat seams gave way (it was repairable), the interiors both held up very well with next to no upkeep.

We just got a C350 sedan (with leather) and heard the same story about delays in getting a leather-equipped one. I was amazed that Mercedes was selling any cars with vinyl in them these days. Even inexpensive cars have leather and it seems a travesty to buy a Mercedes with plastic seats. The leather today lasts and lasts unless you really abuse it, and you can't beat the aroma, feel and innate class of leather. P.S.: Another "new" development in Alcantara, formerly known as Ultrasuede. More plastic! Why?
