Preparation for Snow in N.Y. Is Car Ready? Real Test

Well This is my first AWD car the 08 300 AWD and I am psyched that NY is having snow so that I can test how well it performs. I live in a hilly area. Has anyone experienced AWD Benz? How does it perform? I know the downside is the salt maing the car look like a mess but always time to detail it and look pretty. I also have 3 coats of wax on it.

Slower not Faster --

Remember AWD allows you to go slower and not get stuck. It will also allow you to go faster which will be a Big mistake. Remember cars have had 4 wheel brakes for a long time and they all slide off the road or into each other in the snow even with 4 wheel brakes. It's the ability to go slower, or at least not have to speed up to get up that hill, that is the secret to successful winter driving. I have driven 4 wheel drive vehicles in New England for 25 years. Have a happy and safe winter. You will really enjoy having an AWD vehicle.

you might want to consider some snow tires. I know you have all season and they are better than sport orientated tires. I was skeptical as well of snow tires but they do make a real difference.

Four Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D's are going on mine today. I hope they live up to their good press. I'll report back soon enough no doubt.

(nice Chrysler Sebring as a loaner, yikes!)

My RWD W203 C230 is flawless in the snow!

Snow tires (I run Cooper Weather Masters) and as much fuel as you can keep in the tank along with the secret – patience and understanding the elements - are all you need.

(My 1994 Mustang GT was flawless too)

Unfortunately all season tires are quite useless in the snow when compared to snows. Go to Rubber Association - Welcome and watch the demos for rwd, awd, fwd and more. The videos tell it like it is.

Well I took my 300 AWD into the N/Y/ wicked weather stock tires and it was excellent no slipping. I took it easy and it took me 10 minutes to get through the storm and home which is normal. I love this car.
