Wink E85 / 2008 C300 Sport 4MATIC ??

The 2008 C300 RW models are rated for flexfuel (either E85 or premium gasoline). My new 2008 C300 Sport 4MATIC will arrive the second week in December. I asked my sales guy. "since the C300 Sport RW automatic uses the same engine as the AWD 4MATIC, why isn't the 4MATIC also rated for flexfuel?" His reply was that there is a lot of work to get a car qualified as flexfuel, and the 4MATIC versions of the 2008 C300 are not popular enough to warrent the tests, etc. but it would run using E85.

Of course that leaves my with a bit of a quandry. If I use E85 in my brand new MB and something bad happens, I am SOL since it is not a flexfuel car. OTOH, I think E85 is a step towards renewable fuel, and I'd like to use it if possible (please no flames on the merits of E85).

Suggestions?

I wouldn't use E85 in your car, if it is not specifically approved by Mercedes. I'd be afraid of voiding the warranty.

Ditto - the ECU will certainly log the fact that you filled it with E85. If you have an engine problem under warranty, you may be asked to pay for it yourself. And you will have an uphill battle in court, if MB did not specifically certify the 4Matics for E85.

Don't do it - it's not worth it.
