highway mileage C300 sport

I had a demo c300 sport for the weekend. I was very close to buying one of these until I see the highway mileage. Why is it so low for a 6 cylinder with a 7 speed transmission? The city mileage is OK, but the highway mileage is not much better. The best I was able to get was 24MPG, but more like 22. The salesman said this was the first one they had as a demo and maybe the models built late got more. What are you guys getting? I have a 328i now and get 30-33 on a highway cruise if I keep it around 70. I know they are trying to attract 3-series guys, so I thought I'd try it out, but this does seem like an issue. Chris

How many miles where on the car you test drove? A newer vehicle may not get the milage it claims to get until it is broken in.

It's a very nice and quick Benz, not a slow and dull Corolla. The C300 weighs close to 3600 pounds so it's relatively heavy and safe.

Also remember that the C300 is MB's only E85 engine. When this was introduced in the C230, HWY Mileage Rating dropped from 29MPG to 25MPG automatically.

i just came back from a sales meeting which was a 150 mile roundtrip and i was pretty easy on the gas with the rain this morning. the best i got was 25 mpg and thats with me being nice and slow. 2000 miles thus far so hopefully mpg can still get better. i was expecting closer to 30 ??

fyi - 2008 EPA gas mileage ratings are lower than 2007, with more realistic rating methods now.

i am averaging about 21 mpg, mostly city driving (wife does not use the freeway yet)

MPG was not even a factor for me in my decision. i took one look at the 328i and then the c300 and i knew what I wanted.

if MPG will be your deciding factor, then definitely MB will not win over the BMW. in all the advertisements for the C300, i don't recall them playing up MPG as a strength. when the company does not boast about it, then you know for sure that it is not a strong point.
