I'm getting a solid 24 with day-to-day with my 350 and am very happy with that. In my view, that is certainly respectable for this type of automobile. I was only getting 26 on average with the '03, 320.
And I have to add, if mileage is your primary yard stick with deciding on a car purchase, I would look elsewhere. When a 5 MPG more or less increase becomes a deal breaker and you spend more than one calorie worrying about such things, you'll never be happy.
I'm pretty happy with the mileage on my BMW 545i. It get 30+ at highway speeds. Oddly, the 528i I had for a loaner only got 27.
t seems that a bigger engine helps highway MPGs on a heavy car, with the loss of a little city MPG. This is consistent with the one post of 30MPG on a c350. I'd say that is the exception though based on the demo I had and the posts I've seen.
Mileage does matter as one piece of the puzzle. Its bad enough driving a foreign car, but at least get one that gets better mileage than a CTS.
Also, the guys on the BMW forum are complaining about the 30+ MPH on a 5 series. The contrast is clear. The car that gets 40+ AND performs will probably be my next car.
The new E350 that is coming out with the diesel claims 27/37. That has me interested when the CTS lease is up next year.
The e90 330i I got rid of to get the C300 got 31-32mpg but it was a manual tran. On the same exact route, the C300 did 27-28mpg. The e90 sat about 2200rpm in 6th at 75mph but I've notice the C300 is geared short and sits about 2800rpm in 7th at the same speed.
I'm happy with my 545i. I won't drive a truck because of mileage, so why drive a car that gets truck class mileage?
My '98 Pathfinder got 11 / 22 mpg. The C 300 to me, seems to be a tad better but maybe not so much. At least it handles better than a Pathy. Plus the commute on the Interstate is pretty crowded when I am on it, usually. I'll take 20+ on city, since that's what it's like mostly, interstate highway or not.
I wonder what the diff in mileage is between Comfort and Sport mode? I noticed one post with a pic claiming better than 30 , and was set to comfort mode. I have a 1k round trip to make - I'll check back and let you know.
We have had ours a week now and I have been getting 25 to 26 averaging around 70 to 80 highway and thats the C350. Thats a steady 70 to 80 though, so not skirting in and out of lanes.
I have a 2006 C230 with a V6 and the best is get is 22 mpg city / 29 Hwy. I miss my 2003 C230 Kompressor that got 26/34mpg. I was thinking of getting a new C300, but the gas mileage is not good. I thought the C300 model was an advancement over the C230????
When will the USA get the C220 CDI Buetect Diesel? That should get over 35mpg on HWY

C300 is an advancement over C230 in terms of performance, comfort, room, style and quality. C300 has a larger engine, better performance, more solid structure resulting in more weight and higher fuel consumption. Mileage is normal in this class of luxury vehicle.
