I'm in traffic often (DC ugh) and I circulate the inside air instead of haing fums come in. After like 5-10min it shuts off and lets air in. I don't have the auto button enabled or anything.

Anyone have this issue? This a "standard" thing?
I have a CLK and the manual states that after 30 minutes on recirculation it will switch to fresh air. Check your owners manual, it should be mentioned.
Just wanted to add a little more about the A/C system. I think it is pretty trick. It will automatically recirculate if the outside temp. is above 97 degrees and over time (30 min and as interior cools) it will slowly open the flap that controls the outside air from coming in. Unfortunately, it will not stay closed when it is under 97 degrees so if you want it to recirculate for a long time you cant. It is a little annoying that you can not control it yourself, especially if you want to keep bad outside air out.
Could it be that it is allowing outside air in to bring up the oxygen level up. With air recirculation on it would not take long for all the oxygen to be used up in an enclosed space and four in the car. Better to breath a few exhaust fumes than pass out for lack of oxygen.
rf065, yeah that's great information. I couldn't find such information in the w204 manual. I'll look it over again.
Well if it's shutting off so I don't pass out.. that is a great selling feature the dealer should have told me about =)
"And now with AntiPassout Protection!"

Even when the air circulation on, i can still smell fumes outside,.,, the dealer told me that it prevents only 70% of the air from coming in & not 100% for safety reasons... and if i want it to prevent 100%, they should upgrade the software.
I find this a bit hard to beleive,,, do u think he is saying the truth???
It's likely all spelled out in your owner's manual as it is in mine; please do read your manual as MB gives a lot more detail than what we're used to with other makes.
