Overall I like it. I think it looks a little BMW-ish from the side and back, and I think the grille is a bit too dominant. I would also like to have seen them keep the hood starmark, and not put it in the grille.

The hood ornament and a more traditional grill are retained on the Classic and Elegance lines. Only the Avantgarde has the SL style grill.
I think the new Classic grill is too large . It lacks the sophitication of the W203. Apologies to USA readers, but I think the new car looks too "American". It has lost some of the distinctiveness of the 203.

I think it looks very German still, just not quite as Mercedes (more BMW/Audi influenced). And no offense taken, most Americans despise American cars anyway. The only new cars we have that I would even THINK about buying are the Vette Z06, Mustang GT500, and Saleen S7 (do they still make that?)
The 203 was getting dated and was beginning to look a bit too mundane. I like the 204 for the most part.
I'm sure Mercedes is going the correct way; car is beautiful and better looking than the W203.........no excuses, German engineers are much more trustable than just complains from you readers........
