I am considering purchasing a C55 in the next few days. It looks to be in good condition, CarFax was clean (for what it's worth...), and the dealer seems legit. He basically runs a buyer's service and picks up cars every now and then to sell when he finds a steal. The car has 28k miles, and basically all options, including Nav. What is a fair offer for this car if everything turns out OK?
For information, I want to have a pre-purchase inspection of the car as well. Does anyone know of a good mechanic or service in the MA/NH area would would travel potentially?
Also, if I can provide any additional information, please let me know.
which ever mechanic you choose, make sure they have the STAR diagnostic tool to plug into the OBD2 port and find out what does not work on the car. The diagnostic machine will go through every single electronic component in the car and tell you if it is working or not. Any mechanic can lift your car to look and see if everything is OK and check your fluids, but not all of them have this tool. Also make sure the dealership gives you, or purchase a minimum 30 day warranty, if not a 90 day. If you do purchase it, change the oil and air filters immediately. If that engine is burning oil, you should know within a month, if your having to add oil to it, as the 55 motor has been known to consume sometimes abnormal amounts of oil. GL!
Thanks for getting back to me. I will ask about the OBD2 port. As far as warranty, this would still have 2+ years on the factory warranty remaining. I'm assuming the 30-days is something I would want to ensure I could void the purchase in the event of a lemon.

My C55 has 23000 miles and doesn't use any oil. I'd be less concerned about the motor than other items. Check the functioning of all the peripheral items, including the heated seats, rear sunshade, A/C auto temperature control, power windows, etc. It is these items that can cost a lot to repair.
Well, I got it checked out and no mechanical issues were found or error codes from the diagnostic scan. After that it was pretty much a no-brainer so I am the proud owner of a 06 C55! Thanks for the advice!

Congratulations. These are amazing cars. I also have a 07 Porsche 997, and to tell you the truth, while they are different cars in many ways, I enjoy each equally. The C55 offers up that wonderful torque that only a V8 (or V12 of course) can provide in spades. Hope you enjoy your C55.
