I use my trusty Garmin Nuvi 350, which beats the pants off most German Nav units (including my Porsche). For about $400 you can't lose, and being portable it can be used on trips in rental cars etc. I would never purchase a factory nav. In-dash units in a C55 can get pretty complicated if you want to try to integrate it properly. I wouldn't bother when these portable units are so user-friendly and accurate. Some people think they look too small, but in reality, by being mounted higher and closer, and with excellent voice prompts, and with great map views, I find the size more than adequate and don't find it lacking. Hope this helps.

Compared to a TomTom, they are a joke, both from a routing standpoint and pure usability - personal experience with an 04 COMAND and various TomToms. I've never understood why the Germans did not accept defeat and sign an agreement with the Dutch for a decent system...

I haven't actually used the factory MBZ Nav system, but if it is anything like my Porsche, it is a royal pain. Turning knobs and pushing them in to select from an awkward menu on the screen. My Garmin Nuvi 350 has touch screen, more user-friendly map views, more accuracy, costs a fraction of a factory system, and is portable. I'm not sure if the Dutch can teach them more than the Japanese, who seem to figure out how to make friendly user interfaces.
have 06 w203ss and i want the avic to but they charge me $1600 for the unit avic d4 and its install its that a good price... and i never gonna used the tom tom gps they suck i'm using GARMEN gps i have both of them and GARMEN is the best for me and i have to return the tom tom to get the GARMEN..
If you are soley going for the Nav and not video while driving then go with the pioneer but if you want video while driving then go with Kenwood or any other brand besides Pioneer. I almost set myself up for a financial waste when I wanted a Pioneer double din for the nav because the pioneers cannot be hooked up with a switch or anything in order to watch video while driving. I settled with a flip out touch screen Kenwood with nav which will soon be upgraded to a double din model next year. So if your going for nav only then Pioneer but if you want video while in motion then go with other brands. Just a little heads up.
