Considering to buy

Hi guys,
firstly, hello to everybody here... im new to this forum, but i have been an avid follower of the ML forum as i currently own a '01 ML320.

ive been considering abt buying a either new or slightly used c-class... what i would like to ask is - which is a better choice? im more inclined to a c240 and i dont really mind a new or slightly used(2001, below 20k km. the only concern i have is - since the 2001 c240 is a first year production, im wondering if it might ave lots of 'bugs' that have not yet been worked out.

thanks for any advice given!!!

things on our '02

I don't know precisly if the '01 had any problems but the '02 is just fine. I love this car, it has all sorts of nice features in a nice package. I would recomend you get one with memory seats (I just don't like the seudopower scheme on the base models). I would defenetly suggest the sedan, it just looks like much more of a car, although the coupe is cute.

Anoying things:
-passanger side mirror will sometimes not return to position after reverse, supposedly there is a fix for it already.
-auto wipers sometimes have a life of their own (without rain).
-squeaky parking brake (sounds like the suspension needs greasing, but its the parking brake).
-Key would sometimes not open (replaced key, warranty).
-Windshield would fog from dash vent (update done by dealer did nothing).

Praise:
-I just love the headlamp's beam and power, much better than the ML.
-Steering wheel controls and comand center.
-Nice power band, although from a stop it might be a bit slow.
-everything else...

hope this helps

Intro'd in Germany long before US launch

The new C-Class was very popular on its home turf--there were not any for export for quite a while.

Whatever bugs there may have been, they probably were all addressed in Germany before the U.S. debut.

However, you may decide to continue enjoying the 320 engine but in the new "C"-- it may be fine in the ML but it provides an exuberence you may really enjoy in the 1,000 lb. lighter MB.

I think...

that while most '01s are okay, you should buy a model year that is as new as you can afford, with a good balance of equipment that you want. The '02s did have a bunch of underlying fixes and should be better overall, I would think. Just my 2 cents after an extended period of having a '02 partly for one of our upcoming articles [:)]

Drive a C320 before getting a C240. The difference is dramatic but the difference in price is only about 3K since many options like automatic, Bose, real power seats are standard on the C320. Also many C240s were made in Brazil.

For around town, the C240 was more than adequate and actually very spunky. As for the Brazillian made ones, that doesn't apply to Canada. All of our C240s come from Germany [:p]
