window tint vs. rear side window shades

Does anyone have the fine mesh window shades for rear side windows? How are they?

My dealer said those are really bad in quality (break easily) and refuse to sell them. They recommended me to tint the windows.

I read somewhere that window tints either get scratched or will damage the power window mechanism or interfere with radio reception. Are these true?

Where is the antenna for c class anyway?

thanks!

Re: window tint vs. rear side window shades

There are several MB tech bulletins about window tints with metal that interfere with radio reception. The bulletins say not to use tints at all. The rear window has the antenna. I also have read posts about rollers or guides in the window lift mechanism that leave lines on the plastic.

umm....i have both on my car!

The rear window shades are not as bad as yr dealer described. Perhaps they dont want to order for u for some reasons. If u put them on, u wont take it out every other day, I see no reason why they will break??!! If they do break, claim yr warranty. The only comment about the shades is they are pretty dark, expect the darkness of a 10% tint.
I had clear security films on all doors. Yes, they do leave lines on the inside as the windows roll up & down. This is something that u should be aware of. Its just they (those lines) dont bother me very much.
If I were to choose only 1 between the 2, I would go for rear shades.
Hope this will help, good luck!

Re: window tint vs. rear side window shades

I have a C240 and have 15% tint all the way around. No problems,no issues, and best part is the radio works well and no interfernce at all. Yes its true that u can devel one or 2 lines but if you think about it those may develope on the front windows since u use those most. I my self dont put the windows down at all and i find no reason to put down the back either. Once in a while u have to put the front but i only have 2 small lines and u cant see them from out side the car at all. I think the tint makes the car look better. My advise is find a good tinting shop that has been around for a long time. do your home work and dont rush it. good luck to u

....i have both on my car!...how dow they attach?

I was interested in the side window shades....was wondering how they attach to the door. How do they mount to the doors?...clip on, or is there adhesive involved? Are they manually retractable like the ones one the 5 series BMW's?

Thanks,
Joe

Re: window tint vs. rear side window shades

I was looking at a tint called CoolChrome, I think it's the metallic kind... I will try the rear window shades first. Thanks all for comments.

Re: window tint vs. rear side window shades

I just came back from the LA Autoshow and saw the rear side shades on the BMW's and a few other manufacturers (don't actually recall MBZ having them). Anyway, they looked really cheesy and flimsy. A few had actually been torn and broken from the repetitive usage from the autoshow goers.

Probably better off using the suction cup type that are readily disposable.
Re: window tint vs. rear side window shades

I have the rear window shades. I really like them myself. They clip on and cover the entire window and allow you to roll the window up or down and still have the shade in place. We have a young daughter so we had to get something to keep her from cooking. I have had no quality problems whatsoever with it.

I think they are about $60 per side. Here are the part numbers if you want to check with your dealer. Left - B6 669 1228 Right - B6 669 1227.
