Mobile Phone Kit

Does anyone make a kit to adapt a Nokia cell phone to the existing wiring in the new C? It seems to me that the technology would be quite simple, since all the hardware is there with the Tele-Aid system. It would be sweet to have a handsfree phone in my car, but there is no way in hell I am going to pay what MB is charging for the Timeport phone. Ideally, I'd like to see some kind of cradle to put my phone into that would access the features in the car -- controls on the wheel and stereo, along with the hidden microphone and speaker. I've checked both Nokia and Motorola's websites, but thurned up nothing.
Does anyone have information or experience doing this sort of thing?

Don't think it would work

it would have to connect through the head unit, through fiber optic cables. Don't think the Nokia could communicate through fiber optics, even if you had a kit to connect it.
: Does anyone make a kit to adapt a Nokia cell phone to the existing wiring in the new C? YES, there is something possible!

Rex,
The European C-class can be ordered with an option (code 852) which makes it possible to connect the Nokia 5110, 5130, 6110, 6130 or 6150 to the cars system. The cradle will be fixed against the console and the phone can be controled with the buttons in the steering wheel.
This option costs in Europe about $575,- for the Nokia preparation and $86 for the antenna to go with the set.
So...in Europe it is possible...
greetingz

How would a US consumer go about purchasing it?

Obviously, I already have my car, so I'd just want to buy the equipment. Any thoughts on that?

Re: How would a US consumer go about purchasing it?

I guess if you have connections in Europe or know of a shop that can get the kit for you, it would be possible. I'm guessing it uses the same mounting points and fiber optic cables so it's just a matter of installing a different kit.
Try www.AutoClass.net. I have bought from them before and are very reliable. I believe MBNZ.org has teamed up with them and we get extra discounts on OEM parts if we say we are a member. Ask for Gaston.

Nokia car kit now standard equipment

Hi Steve,
In Australia, the 2001 C class now come standard with this AU$1000+ option. So when I took delivery of my vehicle, I was pleasantly surprised because I do use a Nokia 6150. I'm glad that it came with the car kit, otherwise there would have been two redundant buttons on the multi function steering wheel.
Regards,
Lawrance Lee
