Changing from W to S

Hello all,

I just have a C271CDI automatic break and it is now in W mode as I can tell it does not accelerate that fast and comsumes very few.
I also noticed that my gear can move left and right when in drive and I can see D or 2 on the screen.
Nevetheless, when I press to change to S, it stays in W. Should I first put the gear slightly to thje left so it indicated 4 on the screen?

W is winter, S is summer.

Winter starts in a higher gear and has lower shift points.

Just put it in S and drive harder. I think the transmission may also be adaptive - it learns your driving behaviour and shifts accordingly.

The car will also shift more aggressively if left in 4 rather than D. - but get poorer mileage.

Thanks a lot. It my first mercedes with automatic transmission. I can change from W to S (or other way around) while driving in D yes? Or in 4 ?
If I am correcgt I get in 4 when slightly moving the gear to the right when I am in D yes? ( have it 2 days )

W and S is confusing as you experience and alter MB switched to C for comfort and S for standard.
On C you start on 2nd gear (very hard to notice with diesel) and also enable hill holding.
Could never tell if shifting points change.
If you have triptonic shifter, pushing it sideways change the max gear the car will go to with confirmation on cluster display.
You can push the mode switch and play with shifter at will. Computer will protect the car and will not change the gear to too low, nor reverse.
I was even playing with W/S switch on the hill, when I could stop rolling car by flipping the switch.
Hill holding works on reverse too.

Thanks a lot I tries all yesterday and good results.

Something else: what engine oil do you recommend for my 270cdi?
Does it have a filter for polen?
and brake liquid: how often do you change it.

You must have W210 model but in European version that never made it to America.
All US W210 have dual climatronic with cabin filters + charcoal filters. Do you have dual or single climatronic?
I buy MB brake fluid and give it double intervals due to dry climate in California.

it is a model w203 (break in my case) here in Europe.
I will indeed buy MB fluid.

Question Gearbox blocked

Dear, I now have the following issue with my gearbox of my W203 (S203) C270CDI (year 2001):

The on board computer gives no errors but my gearbox is not changing from gear. It is in W so I start in 2nd gear.
But the gear does not changes, stays in 2nd. Also when I try to change to S; no reaction.

Note: It is now between 0 and -8 degrees every night. I drive my car very few now, and it was parked for the last 10days.
Could the gearbox be frozen somehow? Or few oil in the gearbox that causes that?

What can I do?

(automatic gear)

So i have it in D and position W so that I start in 2nd gear. I can also switch it in R and N

But when driving, I stay in 2nd gear. It doesnot go to 3rd, 4th,..

Also, I cannot switch from W to S when pressing the button.
