C230 2005 Takes long time to warm up.

Hey guys,
I have c230 2005 and has couple issues. Wondering if anyone can help me out with this. I have recently changed my thermostat. It takes long time to warm up to normal operating tempreture (85c). If I drive 20 mins constantly it will warm up. It this normal or do I have an issue?

Thanks guys for all your help.

It could take a while if it's very cold (you might want to complete your profile so we know where you are). 20 minutes sounds too long, though. Mine takes just a few miles of driving to get up to temp, and I have heat in the cabin within five minutes.

if the temp is around 30F my car takes about 10 mins to warm up...with an almost new thermo

their could be air in the system after the t stat was replaced...

first let the engine idle for about 10 mins and make sure the giant fan starts spinning (with coolant cap on) coolant temp should rise past 85 (try parking with the engine nose down) helps get up to temp faster

then take the coolant cap off... i've taken the cap off numerous times at these temps with no coolant coming out so dont be afraid...use a rag and turn the cap slowly

let the car run for another 5 to 10 mins and rev the car up to 2k rpm for a sec and repeat...u should see steam coming out of the tank

i did this before and i got rid of the air...engine seemed better

did u flush the coolant after the t stat ?

Thanks for the info and I have just updated my profile. I will post some pictures of my car later this weekend.

Sammy - It was -15c down here. I guess it is normal to take that long to warm up. I flushed coolant and re-filled the same coolant after t-stat replaced. As you said I might have some air on the system. That was awesome; I will follow your instruction to get rid of the air.

You guys are great. Thanks again

You could also lock the doors with a mechanical key. I just recently found it on the remote key

I would check the thermostat and make sure it isn't stuck in the open position. if so replace.

Dudes, yeah my car fires right up no issues even -20. It just takes little longer than my Acura to warm up.

Schumicat - I have just replaced my t-state and maybe Sammy is right. I should not re-use the same coolant after replacing the t-state. If you guys know what type of coolant is appropriate for my car?

u can either use zerex g05 or mercedes coolant from online or the dealer

make sure u mix the coolant with distilled water at the correct percentages

i think it be would be 60% coolant and 40% water for those negative temps but look it up first

ur acura is a v6 right? bigger the engine the more heat its gunna produce

I will change my coolant this week and yes, my Acura is v6. That's totally make sense why 4 cylinder take little long to warm up. Sorry guys, I am still learning the mechanical side of it. Thanks again for all your help.
