Post 2006 c230 Shift Knob Removal

Does anyone know how to remove the shift knob? Mine has all of the chrome flaking off at the top and I wanted to either replace or try repainting it. Does it screw off or do you have to remove the boot? Thanks in advance for any help.

I got it figured out. You have to lift up the entire silver console panel, then just under the boot there is a small plastic collar, you turn that one quarter turn counter clockwise then it drops down. You can then see there are 4 plastic prongs holding the entire shifter knob assembly onto the shifter itself and all you have to do at this point is simply pull up on the shifter knob, with some serious force I might add, until it comes right off.

I suggest you have the gear in neutral because you do not want to hit your hand on the radio or dash.

I am doing a video on how to do this fix and I will post a link for it here when I get it finished.
