CD Changer replacement

So my problem is this. I pulled out the 6 disc changer on my 2001 c320 (MC3010 unit) to fix the "no cd found error". While fixing I accidently severed the ribbon for the power and optics. Now I have no power at all on the stereo. Is this due to the fact that the CD changer is disconnected....I purchased a new one but haven't gotten it yet, but I don't know if this will solve the issue or not. Please help

If anyone runs into this issue, the solution is as follows. You have to pull out the HU and behind there is a fuse. Mine was bad so I replaced as wah-lah HU working again. If anyone needs instructions on removing the HU please let me know and I can send instructions and pictures.

This link is how to fix the cd changer. I am assuming your changer is in the glove box?

Miko's Blogs: CD Changer Repair

It is actually pretty easy, just make VERY sure not to sever or crimp the ribbon as I did otherwise you will be buying yourself a new changer. It is hard to tell from the pictures but the piece you need to adjust is on the bottom side of the changer once you have it open.

HU is head unit. The radio/nav unit. Make sure you turn the power off on this unit before removing the cd changer or you risk burning the fuse out and that is a whole different project which I succesfully tackled so if that happens, let me know and I can help with that as well.

Good luck.

Hope you can help. I have a 2002 SLK 230 with a factory installed CD changer in the trunk. Radio unit does not recognize that the changer is attached. Dealership checked cables. Cables are good but they want $700+ to replace changer. I think it is a fuse, but if not it is a good place to start and surely won't cost $700. How do I replace the fuse in the CD changer in the trunk?

Do you have a fuse diagram? If you do check it and see if there is even a fuse for the changer (I am not familiar with the SLK set up). Given the multiple issues that the cd changers seem to have, I would tend to think that if the changer is bad then replacement or repair is your best option. Is your radio working with sound?

You can buy used CD changers for around $100 to $200 on e-bay.
New OEM CD changers are around $200 - $300 on ebay.
