Rear fog light question

On my 04 C230 one of the rear fog light does not work. However the weird thing is that there is no malfunction indicator on my display. I went to change the bulb and it still did not work but there was a malfunction indicator on my display.

Anybody know what this could be?

One idea that comes to mind is the switch not working correctly. Old bulb was burnt out, so no malfunction, but new bulb throws malfunction, and still doesn't work.

I thought it could be that as well but, wouldnt that mean that both of the rear fogs would not be working? Right now there is no malfunction but the right bulb does not work and the left one does.

Dude i thought that was my problem too.

but its called a "EUROPEAN FOG LIGHT"

only the left one gets brighter when you pull the full fog rear lights. only the left one should get brighter, the right one should be the same

i was tripping out the same as you were also. but really nothing wrong thats how it is, its called a "euro fog light" cause in europe or something thats how they have to have them in the rear.

If this was the case then why have two bulbs one for left and one for right? also, why did it throw a malfunction when i changed the bulb?

in euro version Benz both left and right rear fogs are wired up and work as expected. On all USA version cars, only drivers side is provided for, because of US DOT regulation that prohibits BOTH Rear fogs, ONLY Emergency vehicles in the US are allowed to have both, so Benz only wired up the left side to comply.

Rear fog should only be used in very foggy conditions. Otherwise you will look like an idiot. In the USA there is only one rear fog permitted, so only one bulb operates. Nothing is wrong.

is there a bulb in the right one also? if so... try to make sure its wired, i think mercedes didn't put a bulb in mine and took out the copper wiring part or something. you might need to rig it yourself if you want both of them, i doubt a cop will really tell the difference lol how many really know about DOT regulations?
