Ever figure this one out? My '05 c230 has a chirp at startup that diminishes as the engine warms. I thought, until reading this post, it was the belt too.
I pointed it out to the local MB dealer while the car was in for service. It was under warranty at the time. They did not observe the chirping. The warranty has since lapsed. If it is the alternator, would MB pay since the problem existed but wasn't resolved while the car was under warranty?
They most likely would. What you should (or should've done) do, is leave the car at the stealership over the weekend. This way they could re-create the issue in the morning (typically the coolest time during the day) and then let them work on it. Mine has been at Lokey Mercedes since Saturday afternoon. They gave me a 2009 C300 to drive in the meantime. My car is still under warranty until the end of the year. I will let you know if the noise is gone and what the source was if they find it.
I talked to my service advisor, they failed to recreate the problem. They said they started the vehicle multiple times in the cold morning and heard nothing. My warranty is actually still valid until DEC 2010, not this Dec. I asked him if the vehicle is under warranty and the owner complains of an issue they cannot find, once the warranty is expired, the only way they could take care of it is if you complained numerous times. Sooo... Im waiting until January to take it in again.
Thanks for looking into my warranty situation boingcpt.
I only complained about the noise the one time. So, I suppose if it is the alternator I'll be replacing it on my own.
Best of luck getting yours worked out.
No problem.
Ask your dealership anyway. Depending on whatkind of people, you could try to fight it saying that you had the noise before the warranty status. It wouldn't hurt to try!
