cracked SMART KEY
i'm just wondering, i have an old smart key (2005- one without the chrome) that has a cracked LOCKED button and not sure if that'll be covered under warranty? i read some older post that some dealers don't even ask question they just replace them with the new chrome key (SLK and CLK forum)
When I mentioned about my cracked key, he seemed familiar with the issue and just accepted it. Heads-up. It does take several days to make a new one, so be prepared to have a spare handy. I was told it has to be sent back to the factory to generate a new one. The replacement key did have chrome edging. Nice. Still being under factory warranty helps. Otherwise, new keys are expensive.

thanks telee, i just came back from my dealership and showed the key to my service advisor your right he seem to be familiar with the issue about the key cracks, he didn't even doubt me. the service advisor i had before refuse to take the key back under warranty he said i had to pay 200+ to get it replace, the key cracked was cause by wear and tear so under warranty rules don't apply. LOAD OF BS! i used to work for BMW dealership and the service advisor tells me that they get commission from every service, repairs (not including warranty), etc. so maybe that's why the service rep refuse to take my "wear and tear" key.
