Ok well summer is here now and my A/C won't blow any cold air. After reading through the forums and talking to a few people, I bought a can of R134a that had a gauge and followed the directions. When I first put it on it was in the green and about after a few seconds it went into the filled section on the gauge. With my luck the a/c was still not cold. I ran the diagnostic thing and got these readings.
01-91
02-80
03-87
04-87
05-87
06-160
07-6
08-78
I'm not sure if 6 is the right pressure reading and if it isn't why its saying it is full.
At this point I've gotten pretty frustrated and I'm not sure what to do next. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
Have you put a full set of gauges on the system? When you start the car, and turn on the A/C your high side should be between 140 to 160 lbs, and the low side should flux between 30 - 50 lbs. When the freon is moving correctly, when the compressor engages, the low side should come down to 30lbs as this is the suction side. This is also the port to add freon ( low side).
If the pressure is reading properly, if you have dual climate controls, you may have a stuck heater control valve pumping hot coolant continusly through the heater cores when you are not calling for it.
you mentioned above the RPM did not change - this would indicate the compressor is not engaging. There is a "cycling switch" on the low side usually on then accumulator that prevents the compressor from engaging when a low charge of freon is indicated ( prevents the compressor from being destroyed).
If you have full charge, and the compressor does not engage, you can bypass the cycling switch temporarily with a paper clip to see if applying direct voltage to the compressor clutch engages it. If it does not you may have a bad A/C clutch.
