scratched windscreen glass

Is it a common Merc fault that the glass scratches easily? More than once now my screen has scratched from no visible debris on the wipers. I do not park under trees, nor does my house roof look like its falling apart.

Having both a W202 and an R107, I never had this problem. Except that, my C180 recently showed a mysterious scratch INSIDE the windshield, just in front of the driver.. Cannot imagine how it happened...

Wipers are notorious for harboring debris. Also; morning dew grabs airborne debris, particulate matter, bugs etc.

If you don't think anything is there; do this test.
Get a clean bounty towel, spray some windex on your windshield and see
the results. It's there!

Everytime we turn on the wiper stalk it promotes scratching.

Develop the habit of cleaning your blades at every fill-up. Gently pinch them with a damp paper towel and clean from end to end. You can also feel if they're too old to bother with trying to use anymore. Be sure to clean the glass where the blades park as well; try to set them back in place as dry as is convenient.

Thumbs up

I try to clean my blades every car wash, especially if I decided to do a full deail of the car.

I clean them on every car wash.

Never had this problem with VW/Renault/etc.

Possibly a spate of bad luck.

Cheers for nullifying my worries.
