New Member and an issue with getting my car chipped
Hey guys, first post. My name's Clint and I bought an 04 C230K about 7 weeks ago when I got back from Iraq. Pretty nice car, only 36k miles when i bought it and interior/exterior were pretty much perfect.
Anyway, I had my ECU reprogrammed at Speed Tuning (Stage 2 tune). I've been talking to Oliver quite a bit up there. Soo, I took it out Monday night, got it back earlier today, hooked it up, and tried to start the car. First try it cranks, fires, stutters bad, dies. Then it just cranks the next few tries. I unhook the battery for a few minutes, reconnect, crank it over, it fires and then stutters and dies. It only cranks now. No spark and I can't tell if it's getting fuel or not.
I've checked all of the fuses in the engine compartment. All are good. The three for engine electronics (48, 53, and 54) check out good and are getting 12.2V.
Before I send it back tomorrow should I check anything else or try anything else? I have a pretty good background with EFI systems (I've built one) so I'm game for anything within reason. I don't have an OBD-II scanner, though.
This thread is not to point fingers, so please don't get me wrong there. Oliver at Speed Tuning has been very helpful and he seems like a knowledgeable person and has already told me that he'd check out the ECU when I sent it back. I'd just rather not have to send it back and just drive my car, I'm sure all of you understand.
They just received it today and did some troubleshooting with it. He said it reverted to a wrong setting and they don't know why (it's not fried so that's the good news). They have to find out why it did that and then they're loading in the new fuel/timing maps again and shipping it out tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be running again on Wednesday.

Once you get it installed and running correctly, do you plan on getting it dynoed to see if your gains are real? Just curious.
Nah, no dyno time for me. I'm going to head over to the local strip and see what it'll run in the 1/4. Dyno's are nice for tuning and I don't really care about what kind of "horsepower #'s" the dyno shows.
Besides, two different dyno's will show two different readings so which one is right?
Where at in Illinois are you from?? I'm originally from just north of Champaign.
Just an update: The ECU has been shipped from Speed Tuning and I should have it tomorrow. When they got it back and ran the diagnostics on it every setting was wrong and all of the fuel/timing maps were effed. No one seems to know why this happened. Oliver talked to some engineers in Germany about it and they said that the only thing that might have happened is that it came into contact with a powerful magnet(s).
So they have reset and reloaded the ECU with the correct settings and hopefully I will have it running tomorrow night. I'll post my findings at that point and will take it to the strip in a couple of weeks if all is well.
Tri-Star: it's just a flash, nothing else is being done to the car.

Reason: bad grammar
So I got the ECU back a little while ago and put it in. Was talking to Oliver while I did it to make sure that everything was in order. Didn't work. Have to get the computer(s) "realigned" they think. I have to get it towed somewhere that can run Mercedes diagnostics which is probably the dealer 45 miles away...Speed Tuning is covering the cost. I'm disappointed to say the least but I wasn't getting my hopes up anyway.
