Can anybody tell what the hell does the dealership do exactly when they check your brakes , i took in my Benz for an A service and i told them to check my brakes if they needed changing, and to my surprise they charged me just to check my brakes more than $50 c'mon i said check not change them. they told me they did some kind of a computer check on them, i really didn't buy that or is that true ????
pretty much. what i do is pull off one wheel on the front and rear and measure the pads and measure the rotors. sometimes i dont even bother to meausre when i can physically see the pads are almost gone or the rotors have heavy grooves in them. then its common sense.
yea... I just look through my wheels.. I can see the pads good enough in the front, in the rear I took off a wheel and look and its fine...
You got raped on 50$ to check that... those fucks should take a look for you anyway on a service A.. At least if they were a quality shop they would. Oil Lube Filter - Check breaks and airbox filters - check all fluids - and anticease the lugs and hub.
I mean all they REALLY have to do is look at them when they are doing the anticease.
bleh, that dealership sucks.

In the U.S., A service includes inspection of brakes. You probalby just shouldn't have asked for anything extra.
Getting brakes done, when the brake light comes on (sensor on the pad will trigger this) is a good way to go cause you have a little life on the pad even when the light comes on.

In my service booklet it tells me that at a Service A, they pull the right-front wheel and simply look at the thickness of the rotor and pads. Service B says they measure all four rotors and the pads.

+1...
you just paid the $50 for nothing.

Sounds right; 50 clams
Trust me if they DID change your Brakes it would not be a measley 50 clams
It would have been between $400-$900 depending on how the wind blows
in your State.
Are you complaining about the $50?
Or the Safety Inspection?
Either way; they should have notified you it was $50 and they should have
notified you what a Brake Inspection consists of.
Are you saying you were NOT EVER aware of this?

A or B or C service...it's just a quick way to take your money.
My first service was shown as the B service.
I changed the oil and filter before and tested the battery and lubed the hinges and all items listed.
I wanted that stamp in the maintenance book. So $370 later they gave me my stamp and weren't happy that I did the work before hand and I let them know I did it.
They added no parts to my car, no air or pollen filters, nothing.
They air gunned my wheels back on with 'some' bolts torqued to 160 ft/lbs instead of the 95 ft/lbs recommended.
Not all dealers are created equal. $ 50 bucks!! you got off lucky!!
