How to DIY axle shaft replacement? - is this easy to do?
Gents,
To make a long story short I have a bent rear right axle shaft I need to replace in my 2005 C230 SS. I need to make a decision, do I pay somebody to do it for me? or is this something that I can do myself?
I've replaced axle shafts in Japanese models, this will be the first time in my MB.

well I hit a pot hole.. I bent the front rim.. and for what I understand my rear right shaft is also bent.
MB will not cover it under warranty, I'm full warranty .. but do you think that by hitting a pot hole is enough to bend an axle shaft?
that must of been one hella of pot hole! Have you replaced the damage wheel? and who diagnosed that the shaft is the problem? wow! so much for a warranty! that really sucks that they are not covering this.

You could be right I may not have a bent shaft after all...
I could have a bent rim... I was told I have a bent shaft..
swap the rim first. if fact if you have a full size spare, go ahead and install it and see how it rides. Take it slow at firts and see if you feel any vibrations coming from that area. the only other thing i can think of is your aligment going out of whack by going over that pothole. I may be wrong but i think that you would mess up the lower control arm before messing up the shaft.

Agreed... Who told you, you bent the shaft? The same stealership that told you that your full warrantee is not covering a pothole take? I would do a few things here...
First take pictures of the pothole and all the damage and present that to the town or county that this happened in because there would be no F'ing way I would pay for that if it was a pot hole for real.
Second, flip out on the dealership and find out what exactly my Full Warrantee covers? Since it doesn’t cover normal driving conditions and equipment failure.
Either they are going to say it’s the pot hole that is "non normal driving conditions" and there now you have a dealership and mechanic backing up your claim against the city/town/county or they are going to bite it and fix it.
If you really hit an 8 inch curb then you’re S.O.L. and if it’s considerable then hit up your insurance.
I would def be looking to replace the wheel and get a feel for it and all that before I just take someone’s word for it.
Also I would assume if you’re asking that this is the kind of thing that you need help with (from a pro) or you need to bring it to a shop. I have been working on my own cars since I was 16. I spent 2 years working in a friends shop doing everything from O.L.F. to alignment to rebuilds and so on. With out being able to bring this car into his shop and use his air tools and have his real mechanics help me, I would not touch a driveshaft replacement job. I mean even if you do everything right and something way down the line goes wrong and someone gets hurt, you’re looking at INSANE legal liability issues bro.
Criminal Negligence comes to mind.
