Wiring for a radio band extender

I've just imported a C200K into New Zealand from Japan and need to have a band extender fitted to the radio. The audio shop where I'm having the work done can't work out how to get power to the band extender so that it won't drain the battery when the car is turned off.

Can anyone advise how the band extender should be powered? Or, should I just buy a new radio header unit.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.
Chris

Probably a new head unit would be the way to go.
I'd be very interested in hearing the story of your import process.
This is something I've been thinking long and hard about
as the dollar in the US is nearly on par with the AU dollar, and not sure about the NZ currency.

How did that work out?
If you cared to post a separate thread on the process, and your story, I'm sure people would be very interested. Well I would for certain.

you wont enjoy the band expander business, say if you tune to 96.5 MHZ your screen will read as 88.4MHZ, then chances of getting fuzzy stations are very high i tried it on a toyota it didnt work well. i have just imported a C200K 2001 into zambia and i ve ordered a Becker Audio 10 BE 6021 from Mercedes Audio 10 CD Alpine Becker Car Radio Player A C CLK E M ML S SL SLK Class Mercedes Audio 10 CD Alpine Becker Car Radio Player am sure you are looking at 87.5 MHz to 108.0 MHz. dont forget its a mercedes benz, such mods do go too well.
enjoy

Thanks

Thanks to both of you. It's clear I need a new head unit and will go down that path. Time permitting I'll post on the import process over the next week.

Thanks again!
