A newbie question

Used to drive Opel (Vauxhall) Vectra (A & B) for more than 7 years now.

Therfore, execute my ignorance, but I’m thinking of buying C180 2002 (Pre-Facelift). Since I’m living in tropical country, it’s crucial to keep monitoring the coolant temperature.
How do I monitor the coolant temperature in Pre-Facelift instrument panel?

The instrument panel does have a temp gauge. Hangs just above 80șC. Don't live in tropical country, but it does get pretty hot here and haven't had any problems.

Using the menu buttons on the multifunction steering wheel and the up/down arrow buttons u can bring up the coolant temp screen

What country and how hot? I can't imagine that it would get much hotter than where I'm at or have worse traffic. When I drive through the desert, it's common to see 110-120F in the fall. I never had a problem with my W203's, even in heavy traffic in these temperatures with any MB I've owned. I realize there are hotter places on earth than the deserts of So Cal including Death Valley and the Mojave, so I'm curious. I did you used to have a problem with a W201 where the throttle linkage ball and socket design would expand and then fall off when driving through the more hotter parts of So Cal but that was 25 years ago.
