Ill Fitting Gas Cap - Benzworld.org

Hey again,

Another problem that I am having with my 2002 c230k is the gas cap seems to decide when it is gonna fit and when its going to turn all incredible hulk and be too big to get in. Ha. Also sometimes when I'm driving my screen goes bright red and tells me gas cap is off and sure enough when I go check the gas cap it has come loose while I was driving.

Any help with this one?

I've had the car for a long time and I love almost everything about it but all of a sudden it is acting really weird on me.

VERY CAREFULLY check your Gas Cap and see if someone CROSS THREADED your Gas Cap.

It should fit on 1-2-3 without all that monkeying around your doing.

Thanks for the hint I looked at checker and they are 39.99 for a genaric piece of crap and on that site its only 20.

All you have to do is adjust the inside of the gas cap...

Yes there is nothing wrong with your cap. Take it off and examine it good. There should be two metal tabs and if you push up on both of those at the same time you can actually rotate the plastic center part. This should re-align your gas cap. It not really "easy" as there is some force on those tabs but you should be able to do this yourself without any tools.

if u get error msg, then u need a new gas cap....
the old one is prolly not closing securely....

Thanks for all the help everyone. I bought a new one before I saw all the replies and it fits perfectly but now the CEL won't reset. Is there a way to manually reset it or do I need to borrow one of those code things?
