K&N filter in 2005 C230 Coupe?
I have an '05 C230 Coupe. Was thinking of putting the K&N air filter in it?
Anyone currently have one in a C230 1.8L? Any known problems like CEL?
Thank you

K&N filters are made to cheap and allow too much dust to get through and this can contaminate the MAF, it's been documented many times in many forums. To give you an idea how bad it is, K&N has documented on their website cases they tested and determined it's not true (what do you expect them to say?). Personally I don't think it's worth it.

I guess it is only a MB problem because I have sold plenty of them and have not heard anyone coming into problems with their cars. And I'm talking between 50 - 60 cars.

My mechanic said to avoid the K&N air filters because of the potential to screw up the MAF. Yes, they work great but the reason K&N air filters work so well is because they let so much through! I'll take the small performance hit rather than shell out the money for a MAF.

As Buell said...this has been hashed many times...it is a personal choice...like voting...
I will say - too much oil makes a MAS unhappy...and here are some pictures to show how far the MAS is from the filter...

JC230,
Slightly off subject, but did it just take removing a few hex nuts to get the cover off of the air box?
btw - nice clean engine compartment

Thanks...I try to keep it clean...
use a 25 Torx - and the bolts are trapped in the lid - don't over tighten and strip plastic...
I did a "full" DIY on this...
