Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

C200 Kompressor Coupe year 2001. 80.000km.

Can you experienced people write your opinions about what can cause too much fuel consumption?

"It's like 20-25l/100km (10mpg maybe)"

Spark Plugs
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
02 Sensor

all checked. No problem found. What should we check more?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

Have your a/f ratio checked on a dyno then it would be easier to trace the source. But what affects the a/f ratio the most is the O2 and MAF sensors. They may not be bad enough to trigger the check engine light but may still be sending improper readings to the ECU. Another source maybe more physical like a fuel leak at the rail, the tank, anywhere in between.

RE: Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

sometimes drivers tend to disregard their driving style(jackrabbit starts), high-speed driving, short short trips and keeps on complaining about the consumption. [:D] high fuel consumption could be a excessive fuel pump pressure or its leaking, clogged air cleaner, idle too fast, fuel injectors leaking, engine misfiring, automatic transmission slipping, or cylinders is losing compression.

jackrabbit- a driver who bumps the accelerator pedal while idling and insist on being the first to get away when the traffic light changes to green will use extra fuel.

RE: Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons? - Still

Well I may be a "jackrabbit" then, but it must be more than that.

First of all I'm doing short trips from work to home, takes 15 minutes maximum each trip. Till the motor gets warm, consumption must be higher, isn't it. (the outside temp is around 8-9 degrees in the mornings these days.

Second, my tires are 225 front, 245 rear.

Third, there's a dense traffic, and I checked my average speed is not more than 25km/h. Can it be effective also?

Finally, yes some jackrabbitism takes place sometimes. You know it's fun.

So under these circumstances, do you think it's normal to consume that much? (around 18 litres/100km or around 13mpg)

My concern is that, there's no errors in the computer at my mechanics, everything seems in the correct ranges. Do you think something invisible is causing it?

Thanks in advance again.

RE: Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

Well, what could be the reason then? What can affect this?

How long does it take for the motor to warm up to 80-90 degrees? What's the average temperature on the road?

Thanks
