2006 C230 vs. 2005 C230; aka 2.5L vs. 1.8L ???

After looking at the specs of the new 2006 C230 Sedan it seems like the new 2.5L Kompresor is actually slower than the old 1.8L motor. I think that the 1.8L motor reported 7.5 sec 0-60 and the new motor is 8.0 sec 0-60 (as manuals). I think that HP is up from 189hp to 201hp and that Torque is down from 192ft/lb to 181ft/lb.

With the increase in HP I would have thought that it would have made up for the loss in torque, but apparently not even close to enough. Are there any other reasons for why the 2006 is slower than the 2005? Is it possible that the numbers are just a mistake on MB's website?

Plus you need that torque to pull the car.

it doesnt feel slower. i had a c230 komp. 2005 for 2 weeks before i got my 2006 and the 06 is much faster and feels more solid.

The v6 has some advantages, performance isn't one of them. The s/c has a life of about 100k miles and it's expensive to replace, also when it's hot outside and the intercooler is not as effective at cooling its performance can be reduced. Not having driven the v6, I would assume it's smoother/quieter, the s/c motor can be noisy although little comes into the cabin. The upside of the s/c is better fuel mileage, the covetted Kompressor badge and better high altitude performance.

The new 2.5L V6 does NOT have "Kompressor" ,NO more supercharger for C230 like before. The new 2.5L V6 has 24 valve now !! But you can get the kleemann Kompressor kit on 2006 spring !! Can't wait !!

Hope to prove you wrong on that 100K life expectancy on the s/c. Come on if a GM 3.8 S/C can go for 250K easy. I had the original turbo on my TDI with 150K when I sold it, and most people were replacing after about 60.[:D]

To the original poster more torque and less weight.[:p]

Since boost is bypassed most of the time, the life of the s/c is likely porportional to the amount of time it's actually used. So someone with a lead foot, revs it to redline all the time will certainly have a shorter life than someone that doesn't. So while it's possible for it to last forever, Eaton rates it at 100k miles.
