RE: 230 Kompressor vs. 325 BMW
I have a 2002 325CI (xenon/luxury/sport/HK package) and I just bought a 2005 C230 sedan last week to replace my '99 C230K SS.
I've always loved Mercedes because of the superior build quality and solid construction but I have admired BMW for aggressive styling, performance and price (respectve to MB).
Like MJ said, it depends on your preference. For myself, I like the sportiness and handling of my 325CI but it rides a little rough and shifting gears constantly on the 405 FWY is not a thrill when you're stuck in traffic for 2 hours. The C230 is great for commuting and the '05 C230 is even sportier than before (compared to my old 99 C230K SS). MB made a bold move to offer the '05 C230 with the AMG bodywork, big brakes, 17", lowered suspension and staggered rims as standard equipment at a low price in comparison to the rest of the C-class lineup. (I am sure alot of C32 owners are writting complaint letters to the MB home office.) Also, the stock C230 stereo is much better than the optional HK sound system in the 325CI and the Mercedes gets better gas mileage.
So if I had only one choice, it would be the '05 C230.
[P.S. About getting more horses out of the C230K, I think you have upgrade the pulley, and chip the ECU to get a considerable HP gain. Please correct me if I am wrong, but most chips do not add more boost (asinstalled in a turbocharged system). It changes when the supercharger comes online, raises the redline between shifts and removes the 155mph limiter (like that last one matters).]
