Hey, I am brand new to the forum and to mercedes period so sorry if this question is trivial. I recently round a 1998 C43 for sale. It is black and has 103K miles on it. The owner says he had the tranny flushed o2 sensors replaced and a few other random mantinece things. The only thing he didnt do yet was change spark plugs. He is asking $8900.
sounds a little high. blue book is about 7900. Mostly im concerned about the mileage. I have dont some research and from what most people say the tranny is the biggest issue. Are there any concerns i should have for this car with over 100k on it? I just dont want to buy the car and find out that mercedes is going to charge an arm and a leg for something dumb.
Thanks for helping the new guy,
Kory Nelson
I'm at 170,000 Miles and I am in the same boat as JasssC,, mine runs like it came out of the showroom yesterday. One thing I know for sure is that the M104 AMG engine is built to last.

owned my c43 estate for 10 mounths no problems at 120k miles
pulls like a train gose like a rocket what more do you need
price has fallen out of them over here and thats 18 spark plugs you'll need to change
id bid him in the nuts and see if he'll drop the price
+1 Yes definitely offer a lower price than what he's asking
you never know, offer him bb value and hold to it
if he doesn't take it right away, maybe after a few days or so he'll call you back to come pick it up
I've always paid lower that bb value for the cars I've owned
I'm patience to find the best deal, some ppl just want the quick cash or tired of dealing with tire kickers
big plus if he has all maintenance records. The last car I bought was $1k below bb, original owner, all records in a folder, all keys/remotes, user manual, even the window sticker

Make sure you test drive it and make sure it shifts and uses all the gears correctly. Usually their's no need for a tranny flush if everythings ok, and its common for a bad tranny to operate even worst after a flush.

ecu is adaptive so stuff can be hidden (like missfire)by the ecu changing the way it works
try opening the door and watch if it vibrates, one in good working order shouldent these can have minor faults masked in this way by the ecu..m.a.f sensor, sparkplugs, coils, also check for worn susspention bushes and brakes as rotors are merc only at £300 a go on the front and as thay say go for a long drive gear change under normal conditions should be almost seemless and kick down when booted ,fairly quick and uncomplicated
