I have a C180 from '94, the car's been great except that the one of the bulbs that lights the instrument cluster has gone out. It went in and out a couple of times and then out cold.
I've heard that is a standard issue with these cars.
Does somebody know how to change these ?
I havent found any screws yet, so I'm wondering if anyone has got a description on how to perform this operation ?
I'm wondering about making a web site to collect this type of guides for the W202.

when i turn on my lights everytime the far left side on the dashboard a cluster light doesn't come on, until i tap the dash with my palm a couple times hehe. getting on my nerves when you make short trips at night and you turn them on and off a lot lol
thanks in advance for any info
I have a 95' C280 and the middle dash light has gone out. I was told by the dealer that it would take removal of the stering wheel and removal of the dash assembly to replace the bulb, (which probably only cost $1-2). I wonder if anyone knows how to replace this dash bulb themselves or is this something that I've GOT to go to the dealer for? Any info would be greatly appreciated....

It is a kind of hook with wich u have to pull out the instrument.
I had the same problem with the digital-clock lights a few weeks ago. If u want to get some pics of the change, i can mail u these.
Yo!

i just unscreewed the plastic under the steering wheel and presst out the instrument house(its just presst in), the steering wheel was a bit of a problem but i managed to replace the 17 bulbs by just pressing the house beetwen the steering wheel and the daschboard! but be awere dont put on the ignition without lamp i replace the srs(airbag lapm) and some how i put on the ignition meenwhile and after that the srs lamp always lighted(caused an error in the car computer..turned it in to my mb deler and he erased the error codes(lapm broken code apparently)
I have a 95 C280 and recently replaced my temp bulb in my cluster. It was fairly easy, and I did not pull off my steering wheel or have any specailty tools. I pulled the tweeter cover to the left of the console and then pulled the tweeter off to the side. Next, pulled off the heater duct cover(under the tweeter)-it comes out with two screws then by depressing two small clips in the bottom of the heater duct cover. I then had enough room to fit my hand behind the cluster and carefully push it out. I did however, cut a small bit of coat hanger, fashioned a small loop on one end(to fit over my thumb) and the other end I bent over in a small catch, to aid me. Once I got it pulled loose, unclipped the two connections on the back, I was able to(at the correct angle) pull the cluster free.
