We have just recently purchased a 1996 c220 with 54000 miles on it and it appears in excellent shape. The car came from Montreal and tghe owner discarded the english owners manual. I don't read french and that is the only manual we have. On the rear view mirror there appears to be both a red and green light, what is their purpose? Also, did this car come with a remote unlocking system, as we only received one key?

Thanks,

Jim D.

This car is equipped with a remote unlocking system. The remote has to be aimed at the mirror.
If the doors are opened ,the light will blink green and when the doors are closed they will blink red. They will blink both red and green together when your remote key batteries need replacement.

If you don't have the remote control unit, you'll have to order them from your local MB dealer. They will need the car chassis, engine details etc and also proof of ownership. The key is specially made in Germany and it will ship back to you in abt a month. It is expensive though.

The other possibility is that the rear view mirror is a replacement and the car originally did not come with remote control locking.

The best way is to visit any MB dealer and they can check for you by removing the front door panel. Normally, for remote control locking, the driver's side door will also have an Led which blinks red or green .
