I just recently purchased a 98 c230 with 120,000. It is throwing a code p0341, the car stumbles at initial acceleration but seems fine on the freeway.
I cleaned the MAF and throttle body already. Next step is the sensor itself, just wanted to see if it was pretty straight forward or there was anything that I should be aware of. I have read threw a few of the threads on this board and others. I am not sure if the magnet needs replaced as the code seems pretty specific.
i appreciate your advice in advance as I am a first time mercedes owner.
Renewing it is straight forward, just plug and play.
If in doubt about your cam magnet, pull off the connector and check for oil, if oil is present then check the cam sensor for oil, then check the O2 sensor.
If you find oil in those connectors then check the main wiring harness from the engine to the ECU, all is well if it's dry.
Worst case scenario then is a new harness, but we're getting carried away for now
Thanks for the info. I did look at the adjustment magnet and it seemed to be clean. I will let you know how it goes tonight. how much of a pain is the magnet to replace?
Easy as pie. Seemed to fix everything. Still a very slight stumble, there was a maf code but im not sure if it was old as I had cleaned it 2 nights ago. Thanks for the help
I have the same problem with my C230, P0341 I thought it was solved when my mechanic told me that it hasnt came back on but when I drove it away it came right back he told me to clear them. and he was right it didnt appear again until the next day.
Anyone know whats going on with this codes?
I currently have P0141 & P0341 (which disappered when the Ignition Wire Sets was replaced??
Currently I erased them but there showing as PENDING (Yellow LED) no CEL yet..
Please help! (I did buy the CAM TIME ADJUSTER MAGNET) Just never installed..
Jet, the p0141 looks like an 02 code. Have you replaced any of the o2 sensors? Also the magnet appears to be pretty straight forward to install I would just go ahead and do it, I mean you already paid for it.
Also what about replacing the maf sensor? I am fairly new to these cars but these 3 items seem to plague them. Check for oil as stated above at the cam sensor, o2 sensor and also at the ecu.
We will see if the code appears tomorrow morning but I put a few cycles on it already and the light hasn't come back.
The camshaft has both a position sensor and an adjuster magnet. The 16v M111 has variable valve timing and the magnet is used to make the adjustment. Installation of a new magnet is simple, you need lint free shop towels to clean up the oil seepage and some sensor safe sealant such as Rensosil. When changing the magnet, it is highly probable you could damage the coolant temperature sensor, which is right in front of it, and probably old and brittle.
The camshaft position sensor sits on the valve cover at the front/ driver's side. Two torx bolts hold it in place.
I thought the P0341 was gone when the mechanic installed the Ignition Wire Set I gave him. Which it did go away and there was only one code at one time P0141 about the Oxygen Sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 2) which I did replace already.
Jet, the p0341 code has nothing to do with ignition wires, it is specific to the Camshaft Position Sensor. I had problems clearing the p0341 with a simple handheld scanner and my mechanic who is luckily a good friend of mine was able to clear with his snap-on reader which plugs into both your obdII and the main comm port under the hood.
Jet, im not sure if its bad but from what i have read you don really want to skimp on the sensors, I paid 130 for my cam sensor, i would say it may be if it is still throwing the p0341 code. Like I said my mechanic could only clear the code with a full diagnostic computer.
Based on what you were saying about the o2 sensor code you may want to check the harness for oil as the cam adjustment magnet leaking will cause oil to travel the length of the harness. You may want to check your ecm connectors for oil.
Again I am new to these cars but from what I have read it almost sounds like his may be the case.
It sits at the front of the head on the drivers side. Part number 1190510077. Tructek is a good replacement and BMAparts has a good price. I used Reinzosil to seal it up.
This morning I went back to check on it, saw some slight leakage, cleaned it up with brake cleaner, then re-sealed the outside edges with some more Reinzosil. Also re-torqued the bolts a bit.
does anybody know about the replacement shim procedure for the cam position sensor?
i replaced the cam position sensor with a spare one from oriellys and am waiting on my oem one to come in the mail so the car can run, but the car still stalls while idling and gets a p0341 code even with the new cam sensor in...is it really possible that the import direct cam sensor is faulty?
im wondering if its possible that the harness is shot? the car is at 240,000 miles and both the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor have never been replaced until just now but i'm still getting the same issues...p0341 with p0201-204(cyl1-4)
I've never come across or used a shim for the cam sensor - it was simply remove and refit.
As for new sensor you fitted I can't comment.
I doubt very much there's a harness fault, well it's unlikely compared to earlier W202's. But do check the injector wiring for damage or poor connection.
