Love my 1995 C280. I would gladly give up my girlfriend before I give up my Mercedes Benz.

First, don't touch the new bulb, any oil you get on it will shorten the life significantly. If I remember correctly, there's a clip that you squeeze and then the bulb can come out. You might have to twist the bulb (I think it's a bayonet type). Also, there are some headlight aim adjustment knobs in the general area. Be careful not to touch them. I accidentally did when I changed my headlamps last time and I screwed up the alignment. But it's not easy to do unless you get careless like I did.

No question this process draws blood and creates bruises--as on most cars.

Hi Guys.... I have replaced the bulb a few times on my W202's. The last time I did this the clamp that you have to squeeze completely broke off. I'm wondering if the clamp is needed (ie: some sort of negative/earth terminal to complete the circuit).?
Basically if I just plug the new blub in (without it being fastened in place) it does not light up.... does that mean the new bulb is faulty? A fuse is blown? or that the bult needs to be clamped in place? (the bulb on the other side works and the fog lights work on both sides - so I didn't bother to check the fuse)
Thanks for your advise in advance

I wish I had a picture to show you, but most of these bulbs have a wire clip that you simply unhook and hinge out of the way. The wire clip lays against the base of the bulb pushing it down into the opening. Many people think you need to remove the screw that holds the wire clip, but it is unnecessary. Push on the wire clip towards the bulb, and while still having pressure on it, move the clip sideways one way or the other to unhook it, then release pressure and swing it away from the bulb. Out it comes.
