Windshield replacement
I need to replace my windshield and was curious about your experiences? The search feature only brought up 2 old threads that didn't cover all my questions.
I called Safelite and their price for a new windshield installed was less than my deductible at $192, but it's aftermarket. I was told that these aftermarket windshields if manufactured by Pilkington, are now the OEM brand for Mercedes-Benz US, anyone know if this is factual? Also, I tend to go OEM for everything on my car but if MB switched manufacturers is that for have read the OEM glass gets "sandblasted" more easily than the aftermarket, explained as being inferior "softer" glass from French manufacturer. I don't know how much this all means but I guess my questions would be do I go OEM or aftermarket and should this be done at a dealer simply to be sure they don't screw up the mono-wiper or trim pieces that surround the glass? Thanks!

I replaced the windshield on my C220 this past summer with aftermarket PPG glass. ~$200 installed. The new glass' tinting and dot-matrix sun screen is identical in all respects to the original OEM glass -- which was also made by PPG. I simply couldn't justify the additional $100 for the three-pointed star logo on the OEM glass. No problems to report after several months of driving -- I've been quite pleased.

Who did the install for you, Safelite, dealer, etc.? So the PPG glass is the same specs just not "marked" with the logo? My glass is PPG as well. Thanks.
After checking into Safelite and the local MB dealer, I went with a reputable auto glass shop. Safelite was cheaper, but their glass was not PPG. I also wasn't convinced that my unprotected office parking lot was the ideal place to install auto glass (my own convenience notwithstanding). The local shop had the PPG glass in stock and performed the install same-day inside their climate-controlled shop.
