I have a 2000 C280 with about 134,000 miles on it. When I come to a stop, the entire car shakes very badly. I believe it is the transmission mounts. Here is why:
1. The vibrations only occur when at a complete stop. Once I accelerate, the vibrations cease. This leads me to believe that it isn't a steering/alignment issue.
2. When at a stop, the vibrations cease if I shift into neutral. Once I shift back into drive, the vibrations resume. This leads me to believe that it is not an engine mount problem.
Thoughts anyone? Has anyone had this problem? Am I wrong? Thanks in advance.
Thanks. If the engine and trans mounts are bad, are they expensive to replace and is that something that I can do with basic tools? Or will i need to take to it a mechanic?
Mounts are relatively easy and agree with earlier post that not a bad idea to do anyway at your miles, although it sounds like something else.
Check for fluid leak marks from the small holes in the mount - also check when reversing (esp up a hill or driveway) - usually evident with a grumbling sound.
Hello all you ppl out there, ive got a c220 elegance 97. Everything is perfect except for a jerk in the automatic transmission when the gear changes from 1st to 2nd. also, the accelerator is quite hard aswell. Just wanted to ask that is this normal for all W202 c class cars or is this an exception. Thanks
having same problem, changing all fuel system parts (maf, plugs, coil pack, wiring,) and A sercive will be done friday will let you know if that fixs mine
i dont think its the mounts because it only happens like 30 percent of time, and it will continue on every stop unless i restart the car which what leaves me to believe it is something else....
