Have been a member for a while, but haven't really posted anything.
I'm having a few problems with my car and just wanted to see what you all thought (gonna have it checked out in a few days).
My car is a 2000 C230 Kompressor and as I was driving 2 days ago another driver cut me off, causing me to slam on the brakes and then rapidly accelerate (I don't know it this could be related to the problem in any way, but it doesn't hurt to include it).
Not even 2 minutes later, the "Check Engine" light came on and the car would accelerate very slowly (when gas pedal pressed, engine would rev a bit first before accelerating very slowly as if starting from a higher gear - Limp Home Mode?). Once up to 20mph or so, acceleration was normal and car seemed as though nothing was wrong.
A restart would "fix" the problem, and acceleration was normal- until I tried accelerating quickly from a complete stop (such as when making a right onto a busy street, etc). The car would "kick" from 1st to 2nd and the slow acceleration problem would come back once I stopped.
Now, its my understanding that the switch w/ the W and S by the gear shift stands for "Wet" and "Standard" and I'm assuming that "Wet" disables 1st gear (starting the car off in 2nd). When switched to W, the car drives as it normally did in that mode. Also, the Check Engine light has now disappeared.
For several months before this problem started (just started 9/12) on cold starts, the idle would stay a bit higher than usualy for about 30 seconds-1 minute and the car would be very hesitant on it's initial shift of the day when shifting from 1st to 2nd (after the first shift, car was fine).
Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?
Will keeping it in W cause any damage?
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to be thorough as possible as this is our only car right now and its relied upon heavily.
Thanks!
