2000 C230 Kompressor Oil Leak??? Help!\

Ladies and Gents,

I have a 2000 C230 Kompressor and after sitting for a week in my garage I noticed a fairly large oil spot under the car. The oil level is low and I got an oil change about two months ago. I attached a picture of the general area where the leak is coming from. I checked the oil pan and there isn’t much evidence that oil is leaking around the plug but there is a lot of oil around the areas I have marked in red on the black "pan" looking part aft of the oil pan. Does anyone have suggestions on steps I could take to deduce this problem?

It looks like the leak is higher than the pan gasket and that the pan gasket is wet because the oil is running down to it. You could try putting in the light sensitive additive in the oil that you then can trace by shining a black light on the engine.

Thanks! Is the black rectangular thing the oil pan? Looking at the parts catalog it looks like the oil pan is silver and it is just forward of the black pan....

I can't get a good orientation within your picture but the black looks more like the transmission fluid pan to me.

Please update your profile to include where you are located and the car model + year (yes, I realize you stated in the title for this particular thread but...)

Just updated my profile. I think it is the transmission fluid pan as well. it is located just aft of the oil pan. Would there be oil around that area or transmission fluid? It feels and looks like oil and since my oil I low I am deducing it to an oil leak. What is above the transmission fluid pan that would be leaking oil?

On another note, have you had any problems with your Crank Position Sensor or Cam Angle Sensor?

You need to get in there and try tracing the fluid leak up to its highest point. From what you been posting so far, I get the impression you just took a quick look. We will try to help you out if we can but you need to get more specific with your details because it could be due to one of many issues and we are at a bit of a loss since we can't see things ourselves.

There are a few different places the transmission could be leaking. One of the most common and easiest to fix is at the electrical connector. An O ring fails over time and starts a leak. It is important to get this repaired so that the fluid doesn't migrate up the harness into the tranny's TPU and fry it. I am not saying this is your leak, but it is a place to start looking. Do a search of this forum because I am pretty sure others and I have discussed it here.

I just looked at your picture again. The second red line from the left side of the picture looks like it is pointing at the electrical connector I just mentioned in my last post and that sure looks wet/covered with fluid.

All,

Thanks so much for responding so quickly. I ended up taking the car to a local Indy here in Atlanta for a diagnosis and you are correct. They said the pan gasket is bad and the electrical connector needs to be replaced as it is leaking too. So here are the action items I believe I need to take.

1. Drain Fluid
2. Replace the Transmission Pan Gasket
2. Replace Oil Filter
3. Replace the Electrical Connector
4. Fill with new fluid.

So here are the parts I think I need and PLEASE correct me if I am wrong:

Gasket
T Oil Filter
Transmission Fluid (I am going to buy at the dealer and double check the exact quantity needed)
Electrical Connector
Replacement cap for the one that breaks when you fill the T Fluid.

I found this post which is great for performing the transmission service on a w202 c230 car.

I will post after I complete the service for total cost.
