1998 C280 Tranny Won't Shit Gears

Hello, I drive a 1998 automatic c280, The problem is, my car won’t shift out of 2nd gear when I drive it, A shop told me I need a new transmission,. So I got it put in, yet it’s still having the same problem. What could be wrong

Correct me if I am wrong, your transmission was and still is having 2nd gear issues and the tranny has been changed....If so did they ever retrieve tranny codes are give you any resolution on this? If not you will have to have a SDS test done, period.
I am attaching a pdf. again about tranny issues that basicly will give you an idea of how complex this type of issue can be. Well it could be many things to answer your Q. The tranny besides the computer modules on these cars are probably the most complex components to deal with.
Here is a quote perhaps pertaining to what you described from the pdf.
Transmission shift point delay:
"The 2nd to 3rd gear upshift on some models is delayed 60-80 seconds to enable catalytic converter to reach its operating temp. quicker. Shift point retard solenoid is energized by CIS-E shift point or AIR MASS Sensor control unit through transmission shiftpoint (upshift) retard relay. "
Apparently there is a vac module involved, the computer, and the Air mass meter or MAF we all know to well, not to mention all the internal mechanics that come into play.
If you did indeed have someone install a new tranny and go through with all that expense is bring it back and them, but it sounds like whomever it was does not have SDS software so you will at least need that info before you can proceed.
I would be extremely steamed if I were you if this was just another issue of a MAF going bad. Hope you get this resolved, B

Post 722.6

I believe that WNichols Tranny is the 722.6 which is the Computer controlled box. Much more complex even that the 722.3 and .4 that the PDF covers. The same theories apply for certain functions as bmeister noted.

One common problem on the 722.6 is the Large Electronic Connector gets contaminated with fluid from a leaky seal. This causes all kinds of crazy problems including Limp Home Mode.

Good luck and please let us know how you come out!

Here's an extra "f" to put in your Thread title!

C as in 220

Uncertain.

I just bought the same model year C280 as you. That eBay posting does NOT list our C280 as one it will be compatible with. Did you notice that? I hope that's a typo, cuz for $28.00 I will be ordering one too. What do you experts think?

p.s. To keep things light, may I suggest alternatively that you try Immodium AD for the tranny issue?
