I know I have posted this before and I am posting this shit on every forum in the Universe in the hopes someone can point me to where this sucker is located. Below are some pics of the the driver side footwell with the kick panel off, somewhere above the gas pedal. Thanks. Michael

you know, I read some where that the evap sensor on w202 is located...wait..are you sitting down first?....ok, I read that the evap sensor is located...*gulp* inside the evaporator!....because it is no where near the gas pedal. I did the same tear down and couldn't find it. :mad:that's when I read that horrible news somewhere.

I found it. It is near the gas pedal and accessible with the kick panel off. I actually went to the MB dealer and the parts guys (both of whom know me well) greased me with one of the techs and he showed me and even replaced it for me (I gave him a twenty). The reason I could not see it is because I have such an early W202 (no headrests) the evap sensor has a pig tail on it. He said he never saw one with a pigtail before. I will circle the item in the photos and post it once I finish my tasty burger. I had my R134 recharged and after about an hour of fiddling with that f'n CCU, it is blowing icy cold. I also bypassed the duovalve (properly) and will replace that when weather and finances permit.

Below please find: W202 evaporator sensor location, evap. temp. sensor location, evap temperature sensor (for other poor saps searching). The kick panel is still off on my car so I will try to take better photos and post them on Monday. I realize the photo is not great and you can only see the pigtail, but at least you will know the general vicinity. Also, I included a stock photo (courtesy of AutohausAZ.com) of the current version. I will also post a photo of the pig tail version once I grab it from the car.

Remove driver side kick panel crawl under the dash with a flashlight. Looking up from outside the front door along the center console and above and to the (deep) right of the gas pedal, you will find the evaporator temperature sensor.

I don't want to take it back out in fear of breaking it as it is already installed. It has a very dainty filament on it and I don't want to risk it. Sorry. I will, however, try to take some better pictures. Michael

It'll pull right out, pop right in. Once you see it just pull it out. Its not really secured in there and theres really no trick. They're angled though so when you pull it out, tilt it so it comes out, but once you do it you'll see exactly what I mean. It'll have a little plastic "cage" as pictured around the bulb so it won't get damaged unless you drop it/step on it/bite it, etc.

Yes, that is the only piece you will need to access the sensor. Again, it will be deep above the gas pedal towards the console side, next to the black box which houses the evaporator itself. Michael

Check the error codes. A faulty evap temp sensor should throw a code. I just got mine in the the mail yesterday and since it's 103 here, I'm going to brave the intense heat in my black 320 and replace it. Currently, my a/c blows cold for a couple minutes then outside temp air. If I run it for a minute, turn it off for a minute, and run it for a minute, it will stay cold, even after 30 minutes of driving. Codes indicate bad sun sensor and evap temp sensor. I'll deal with the sun sensor later, maybe - it's not that critical.

sorry to hijack, but I got a better question.

we have same w202 (mine is pigtail).

I'm fairly certain I blew my evaporator itself.

seeing as how it's in the same location, how do I access it? under the hood or dash removal? you can guess which one i'd prefer.

Angie Towers,

Welcome. :)

Have you removed your kick (knee) panel just under the steering wheel? Its located as described in this thread.

Also, please update your user cp info.
