Isn't it the button that makes the bulletproof shield raise up and the smoke screen start billowing out? Sorry, I can't help but can you update your title to something like "What does this button do?" You might get a faster response because many people skip reading AC questions since they can get so technical.

In what country do you live? I am guessing not the U.S. since you mentioned the Esprit designation. That might help give a clue if it is a country specific option.

No it's not the button that makes the bulletproof shield raise up... anw 10x xvvvz for the reply,I changed my title , hoping to get an answer.
I don't live in the us, my contry is lebanon, where most of the w202 were euro specs, all the euro specs cars have this button, it's not a special option for my country...
Esprit is one of the w202 trim "classic , esprit , sport , elegance"
it stands right after the classic, it's a sporty trim... lower sport suspension but not much options...
note: this button is not exclusive for the esprit trim, it's present in all trims in the 1993 1994 1995 models,in 1996 and later models this button disappeared.
and don't tell me to read the user manual, cuzz it's in german, and I don't have one.
please try to help me...
10x all

Sheesh; that photo was so small; I think my eyes are hurting.

I THINK, but can't be firmly sure, its the Rear Defrost.
If has these "little waves" on it; that indicates Heat.
Red Light indicate its on.

I use mine every morning here in Florida; because early A.M. the
rear window is wet from the evening dew.

But a close up picture would be better.

It is not the rear defrost button... that is up in the row of switches just left of the rear headrest switch.

It is not the recirc button... that is at the bottom of the HVAC stack under REST.

Not sure what it is though... ask a dealer near you.

91 is correct. When I double clicked on the image to enlarge it, I saw it definitely was a button I had never seen before. I am sure some Euro owner will be able to tell us.

I am reasonably certain it is the defrost switch for the windsheild and side windows. It is located in the same position as the U.S. models and has a similar icon.

It should be easy to test; just drive with the air con engaged, then hit the switch. It should direct the hotest air available (dependant on the engine temperature) to the windshield and side air outlets and should override the current settings. When pushed again, all should return to the original settings. It is there to quickly defrost without doing a bunch of other settings. If I am wrong, I would also be intersted in knowing its function.

Wrong again... the windshield defrost is both knobs pointed up and the temps at full hot... and defrost has 3 squiggly arrows... maybe this is a heated mirror switch, if they weren't automatic in that region or standard on that model.

I'm an Italian owner of a C180 1994 and have the same control panel. That's used for the dehumidifier. it turns on the compressor anyway but should just keep out the humidity.
Honestly I've never used it.
By the way it helps a lot if you have to defrost.....

ciao and sorry for my english
