Could be the Crank Pos Sensor. They will usually shut the car down when they get hot and then not allow it to start until the engine cools down a bit. (May be on its way out) My other standard guess would be the Mass Air Flow Sensor. They will make your care exibit all kinds of crazy symtoms without throwing a code. BTDT

Good Luck!

Post CPS

Your problem will most likely go away if you replace the Crank Position Sensor. I just learned this check the other day on this forum to confirm it's the CPS. (I tried this on mine and hardly saw a differance) The next time it fails on you: see if the Tach needle moves when your cranking the car. If you get no movement like you get when you start the car from cold, it's the CPS that has failed. Very common problem in these cars and not too expensive to fix. If you are a DIYer you can do it yourself. Otherwise have a Mechanic replace it for you. I did a thread starting 11-27-07 (search by date) on this when we replaced ours. Some very nice people sent pictures to make it easier.

The distance one of theses cars has traveled does not seem to matter with a CPS failure, newer models have this problem too. It's a weak Bosch part apparently. The Camshaft Pos. Sensor is similar but does not seem to go out near as often.

Does the car start after cranking a while, or does it have to cool down before it will start? If your Tach needle bounces a little while cranking and it eventually starts: You may have a MAF going out, or a dirty Throttle Body. These can be cleaned, The MAF is easy to replace yourself. If you need one of those, I suggest you buy the (insert part) online it is much cheaper than buying the housing part with it. There's lots of threads to search on this forum to help you with that too.

Good Luck!
