Hi Guys, first post for me. Sorry if I unknowingly breach rules of etiquette! I have a 2002 c230 kompressor sports coupe.
This weekend I did a sloppy 3-point turn and backed into a chain link fence. This cracked open my driver's side tail light cover. The light itself still works.
I found replacement covers online at various prices. $150 at a reputable website. $130 at a site I never heard of. $115 on ebay.
Called the dealership. They don't sell covers separately. They just sell what is called a "lens and housing assembly" which is $185.
It seems almost silly not to just replace the entire thing for not much extra cost. Anyone have experience in replacing either the assembly or the cover themselves? I am willing to have the dealership do it, but i have some gearhead friends that are willing to help me, and this seems like the level of project I can do myself.
Any advice would be appreciated.
