Engine Noise

Hi All
There is some kind of noise coming from the engine compartment. Grrrrrr…. Period, Grrrrrrr.. period. (Hope it gives you a better picture of the problem). It is always present, but prominent after a cold.. It becomes more annoying when in D.The most I could isolate it is that it is coming from somewhere around thermostat. Also, when I touch the thermostat it gives out a good amount of vibration as if it is coming from thermostat itself. I changed the thermostat the other day(it was going bad), and for a short period(like 5 seconds) the noise was gone. It sounds pretty bad, could it be timing chain is skipping tooth? Or the tensioner shock.

Thanks.

Sounds like it could be the belt tensioner, maybe when you select D this lowers the engine revs and makes it more noticeable. I looked at a car once that I was going to buy it had similar symptoms and that was the tensioner.

Yeah. It just came up on me, and the noise was caused by the bearing in the belt tensioner.
