Difference in feel between the 1997 C280 and 1999 C280

I have spotted a few ad listings for the later model C280 with the M112 V6 engine.

I currently have a 1997 C280 with the M104 engine, and would like to hear a feedback from owners of the C280 model year with the V6 engine.

Also how much more economical are the V6s to the R6s?
Are the V6s a tad bit smoother in power delivery as compared to the 97 vehicles with the M104 engine?

What do all of you think?

RE: Difference in feel between the 1997 C280 and 1999 C280

I tested a 1996 C280 Elegance prior to my purchase of my 1999 C280 Sport Edition with the V6 engine.

The difference was that the acceleration. The Inline 6 needed more time to pickup speed. The V6 has more power and more torque, and it runs smoother than the inline 6. In normal driving conditions the V6 picks up speed fast.

I think the reason you experienced this is due to the trans more than the engine itself. The 96 had the vaccum controlled 4 speed. The 97 is the only year with the 722.6 trans bolted to the I6 engine. I know this because I had a 95 C 280 before my 99 C 280 Sport and the trans made a world of difference between the two. I would have to say the major differences between the two engines is smoothness. The I6 is WAY smoother than the V6, bot overall, they're about the same. Also the V6 is noisier than the I6, but under heavy acceleration, the V6 sound meaner than the I6.

Davis449 is right. Sometimes other W202/203 owners think that is have either a modified C280 or i swap engine for a V8. It is noisy specially in the morning. When i'm driving with my windows open, i could hear my injectors (jet sound) and the transmission changing gears. I had poeple driving next to me listing to my engine how it is performing.

Mine is also Brillant Sliver and Grey Leather Interior. There is another one with Black leather interior and headlight wipers and S600 chrome grille.
